Berjaya Mutual Sdn Bhd, formerly known as Inter-Pacific Asset Management Sdn Bhd (IPAM), is a 71% owned subsidiary of Berjaya Capital Berhad. Berjaya Mutual was incorporated in Malaysia on 24 September 1990 under the Companies Act, 1965. The principal business of Berjaya Mutual encompasses the management of unit trust funds and portfolio management. Berjaya Mutual started its unit trust business since 25 July 2007 with the launch of the Funds. As at 31 July 2021, the Company managed Five (5) unit trust (Dana Safi, Interpac-Dynamic Equity Fund, Interpac-Cash Fund, Dana Abadi, Dana Saadi), Two (2) wholesale fund (Interpac Social Enterprise & Responsibility Fund, Dana Ghani), and private mandate.

The Manager, Berjaya Mutual, is responsible for the overall management and administration of the Funds in line with the Deed, SC’s Guidelines and relevant laws. Its main responsibilities include the following:-
  • Managing the Funds in line with the Funds’ objectives as set out in the Deed
  • Administering the sales/repurchase transactions
  • Issuing reports (interim/annual report) to Unit holders on a timely basis
  • Ensure timely distribution of income or additional units, if any, to Unit holders
  • Maintain proper records of the Funds

The Manager (Berjaya Mutual) has appointed Inter-Pacific Securities Sdn Bhd (IPS), its related company, to perform the functions of back office functions of Human Resource and Information Technology. IPS was incorporated on 30 August 1972 and is a Participating Organisation of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad as well as a Trading Participant of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad.

IPS ensures that the back office functions of Human Resource and Information Technology are performed to support the Manager.

The Manager has appointed Amanie Advisors Sdn Bhd (“Amanie”) as the Shariah Adviser for Berjaya Mutual’s Shariah compliant fund; ie: InterPac Dana Safi and InterPac Dana Abadi (the “Fund”). As the Shariah Adviser to the Fund, Amanie ’s role is to ensure that the operations and investments of the Fund are Shariah-compliant through their advisory to the Manager. Final responsibility for ensuring proper compliance of the Fund in all relevant aspects rests solely with the Manager. The Shariah Adviser responsibility is to provide the Shariah Advisory solely for the InterPac Dana Safi and InterPac Dana Abadi only in ensuring the Fund is maintained Shariah compliant and does not related to any other funds or mandates which are invested into the Fund.

Amanie Advisors Sdn Bhd (”Amanie”) is a Shariah advisory, consultancy, training and research and development boutique for institutional and corporate clientele focusing on Islamic financial services. Amanie is a registered Shariah advisory company for Islamic unit trust with the SC. It has been established with the aim of addressing the global needs for experts’ and Shariah scholars’ proactive input. This will ultimately allow the players in the industry to manage and achieve their business and financial goals in accordance with the Shariah Principles. Amanie also focuses on the organizational aspect of human capital development in Islamic finance worldwide through providing updated quality learning embracing both local and global issues on Islamic financial products and services.

The company is led by Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar and teamed with nine (9) active and established panels of consultants covering every aspect of the Islamic banking and finance industry in Malaysia and the global market. Amanie consultants represent dynamic and experienced professionals with a mixture of corporate finance, accounting, product development, Shariah Law and education.

Amanie meets every quarter to address Shariah advisory matters pertaining to our Shariah funds. Since 2005, Amanie has acquired eighteen (18) years of experience in the advisory role of unit trusts with more than 200 funds locally and globally.

The designated person responsible for Shariah advisory matters of the Fund is Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar as the Executive Chairman. Other consultants are:

  1. Suhaida Mahpot, Chief Executive Officer.
  2. Nurain Mohd Zarir, Associate Consultant.
In line with SC’s guidelines, the roles of AA as the appointed Shariah Adviser are as follows: –
  • To ensure that the Fund is managed and administered in accordance with Shariah principles.
  • To provide expertise and guidance in all matters relating to Shariah principles, including on the Fund’s deed and prospectus, its structure and investment process, and other operational and administrative matters.
  • To consult with SC where there is any ambiguity or uncertainty as to an investment, instrument, system, procedure and/or process.
  • To act with due care, skill and diligence in carrying out its duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for scrutinizing the Fund’s compliance report as provided by the compliance officer, and investment transaction reports provided by, or duly approved by, the Trustee to ensure that the Fund’s investments are in line with Shariah principles.
  • To prepare a report to be included in the Fund’s interim and annual reports certifying whether the Fund has been managed and administered in accordance with Shariah principles for the period concerned.
  • To review the Fund’s investments on monthly basis to ensure compliance with Shariah principles or any other relevant principles at all times.
